Western Days Parade Craftshow 2010

Western Days are so much fun during the annual rodeo at Lakeside, CA. This year during the parade I had a booth at the Olde Church on Maine Street for a small fee I had my artwork, design services and tons of Mexican style Marshmallow Kabobs.

Kabobs that were made with an array of marshmallows some were chocolate covered with added sweet and sour gummies or Mexican chili candy.

My artwork included Western theme plaques and Rooster artwork for the counrty style craftshow. I also sold some recycle accessories made with old watches and buttons which were a hit. More on those accessories later..

Marshmallow Kabobs Tour 2010

Making tons of Mexican style Marshmallow Kabobs with my mami or Tita until 4am for the Western Days Parade. The kabobs were made with an array or marshmallows some were chocolate covered with added sweet and sour gummies or Mexican chili candy. We thought that everyone would buy these like crazy and we made so many...especially my mami!

Summers Past Farms 2010 Craftshow

Summer Past Farms Antique and Craftshow was held on April 17, 2010 at Flinn Springs, CA. I had my firt booth where I sold custom children's artwork, monograms and my design services. Since this was my first time selling I shared a space with my fellow artist and friend Claudia Marie Chavez-Estrada who owns Busy Bee Studio in Chula Vista, CA. Busy Bee Studios has art classes where Claudia sells her unique handmade paper goods and gifts.

The weather was perfect and my family and friends who came to support me were Tita, Lu, Belly, Sofia, Cri-Cri, Jorge, Jimmy, Alex (special shout out to my helper), Brian, Shari, Emma, Jay, Mary, Dayma and Tom. The girls enjoyed walking the Alpacas and we had fun at the booth selling my poor Frida who had teething pain (note my sad face).

I did not sell much but the day was enjoyable and there is another craftshow in December, I better start painting!

Creating Colorboards for Interior Design

Creating colorboards for presentations may be time consuming but the results are always so inspiring. These colorboards I helped create and made for a client while I was working at an award winning design firm in San Diego. The overall design was "Hollywood Galm" initially designed by Nicole Stielrin an interior designer/friend who is now residing in Portland, Oregon. The design colorway was silver, turqouise, black and cream, very tounge and cheek.

Dia De Los Muertos at Centro Cultural de la Raza

Celeste Roberts is a Latina with a mission.

Her artistic expressions revolve around current and emotional events from our world. Her art series “Ni una mas!” is based on the 325+ plus missing women from Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. Women ranging from the ages of eleven to fifty are abducted, killed and some are raped and or tortured. The women are then left to die if not already dead in the scorching desert heat of Juarez. Amnesty International, KPBS, Por Nuestras Hijas and others have raised a great awareness for this horrible modern day “Femicido” and now, Celeste is attempting to do the same.

My name is Celeste Roberts and I would like to talk about my altar dedicated to “The Missing Women of Juarez”.

My small exhibit is a protest over the brutal killings in the area of the City of Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. These killings have been occurring for many years without imprisoning or capturing the killer or killers.

The focal point of this exhibit is an enormous dress, which represents the articles of clothing found in the remote areas where these heinous acts were committed. “Now let us listen as we try to speak on behalf of the women or in this case, one woman.”

I have translated on these small sheets the story for all non-spanish speaking to follow along

Read…”El Vestido Vacio / Empty Dress”

I was invited to make an altar for this exhibit so, I created this enormous dress…….

It is not pretty, nor couture, nor in any way the latest fashion. It does not have adornments nor sparkles because, it is lifeless………….

Its’ life was brutally taken away one dark and dreary night in a desolate area in the city of Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Thank you for letting me speak

"Seeds of Life" at Centro de la Raza, Balboa Park

The Centro Cultural de la Raza is proud to present a community collaboration of artists & installations called: "Seeds of Life". This exhibit explores a personal and cross-cultural perspective of rituals of fertility and cultivation from around the world, from ancient to contemporary times.

"Seeds of Life" will run from Jan.9th to May 8th, 2005, Tues-Sun, 12-4pm honoring International Women’s Day, Earth Day and ending appropriately on Mother's Day. These observed dates helped create the theme of "Seeds of Life" which will be incorporated to create this innovative experience.

Using the Centro’s legendary circular facility which is known for its vivid murals, its 300-seat performance space and its 6,000 sq. ft. exhibition space “Seeds of Life” will display within it;

1. Original artist's work depicting both fertility and cultivation themes.
2. An installation with artifacts and visual guide of cultivation myths and legends.
3. An area with cross-cultural fertility rituals including an interactive "Sweat-lodge"
4. In conclusion, we will have alternative information of fertility such as, homeopathic medicine, infertility information and adoption.

As some of you may know, the Centro Cultural de la Raza is a very special place. With a mission of creating, promoting, and educating about Mexican/a, Chicano/a, Latino/a and Indigenous art and culture in San Diego/Tijuana border region, the Centro stands alone. Thank you in advance, for your visit to the Centro Cultural de la Raza and for supporting your local artists.
