Dia De Los Muertos at Centro Cultural de la Raza

Celeste Roberts is a Latina with a mission.

Her artistic expressions revolve around current and emotional events from our world. Her art series “Ni una mas!” is based on the 325+ plus missing women from Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. Women ranging from the ages of eleven to fifty are abducted, killed and some are raped and or tortured. The women are then left to die if not already dead in the scorching desert heat of Juarez. Amnesty International, KPBS, Por Nuestras Hijas and others have raised a great awareness for this horrible modern day “Femicido” and now, Celeste is attempting to do the same.

My name is Celeste Roberts and I would like to talk about my altar dedicated to “The Missing Women of Juarez”.

My small exhibit is a protest over the brutal killings in the area of the City of Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. These killings have been occurring for many years without imprisoning or capturing the killer or killers.

The focal point of this exhibit is an enormous dress, which represents the articles of clothing found in the remote areas where these heinous acts were committed. “Now let us listen as we try to speak on behalf of the women or in this case, one woman.”

I have translated on these small sheets the story for all non-spanish speaking to follow along

Read…”El Vestido Vacio / Empty Dress”

I was invited to make an altar for this exhibit so, I created this enormous dress…….

It is not pretty, nor couture, nor in any way the latest fashion. It does not have adornments nor sparkles because, it is lifeless………….

Its’ life was brutally taken away one dark and dreary night in a desolate area in the city of Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Thank you for letting me speak
