"Seeds of Life" at Centro de la Raza, Balboa Park

The Centro Cultural de la Raza is proud to present a community collaboration of artists & installations called: "Seeds of Life". This exhibit explores a personal and cross-cultural perspective of rituals of fertility and cultivation from around the world, from ancient to contemporary times.

"Seeds of Life" will run from Jan.9th to May 8th, 2005, Tues-Sun, 12-4pm honoring International Women’s Day, Earth Day and ending appropriately on Mother's Day. These observed dates helped create the theme of "Seeds of Life" which will be incorporated to create this innovative experience.

Using the Centro’s legendary circular facility which is known for its vivid murals, its 300-seat performance space and its 6,000 sq. ft. exhibition space “Seeds of Life” will display within it;

1. Original artist's work depicting both fertility and cultivation themes.
2. An installation with artifacts and visual guide of cultivation myths and legends.
3. An area with cross-cultural fertility rituals including an interactive "Sweat-lodge"
4. In conclusion, we will have alternative information of fertility such as, homeopathic medicine, infertility information and adoption.

As some of you may know, the Centro Cultural de la Raza is a very special place. With a mission of creating, promoting, and educating about Mexican/a, Chicano/a, Latino/a and Indigenous art and culture in San Diego/Tijuana border region, the Centro stands alone. Thank you in advance, for your visit to the Centro Cultural de la Raza and for supporting your local artists.

Sincerely,
Celeste Roberts
Curator for “Seeds of Life”
